News Roundup

This week's news roundup is a real mix, from remembering Sinéad O'Connor to Black Honey sharing a funny tour story. In a fitting roundup for a varied week, I'll be covering stories concerning Sir Chloe, Boygenius, Ye Vagabonds and Black Honey, so strap in.

Firstly, I want to talk about the Boygenius and Ye Vagabonds cover of 'The Parting Glass' which was released on Friday to benefit the Aisling Project, a charity which benefits school children in a disadvantaged area of Dublin. Sinéad O'Connor (who is featured on the cover of the single) previously recorded the traditional Scottish song for her album 'Sean-Nós Nua' in 2002, and the charity was also selected by the Sinéad O'Connor estate. Phoebe Bridgers has a history of recording and releasing covers in the run up to Christmas, so it has been speculated that this may be a continuation of that pattern. However, regardless this is a beautiful cover of a brilliant song and it's lovely to see Boygenius work with Ye Vagabonds, an Irish folk group who actually opened for Phoebe when I saw her in Birmingham last year. Additionally, it's amazing to see them pay tribute to Sinéad O'Connor, a key figure in paving the way for women to be taken seriously in the modern music industry.

An exciting piece of news is that tickets are now available for Sir Chloe's US tour. With dates in major cities like LA, NYC and Nashville from the 10th March to the 27th April next year, it's really going to be something. Obviously, being based in the UK I'm not going to make it but I'm certainly jealous of those of you in the US right now. If you like Sir Chloe, now is the time to grab your tickets!

The final story I wanted to discuss is a lighthearted one from the Black Honey European tour. Izzy Bee Phillips, the band's lead singer, shared on social media yesterday that she'd had to return to London and take the Eurostar to their headline show in Paris tonight after forgetting her passport at home. Although this was undoubtedly stressful for the band, she seems to be in good spirits about it and will make it to Paris in time. Later in the tour, the band will also be playing some shows with Greta van Fleet, so if you're based in mainland Europe you should definitely think about heading to those.
