News Roundup

This week’s music news roundup includes an announcement which is set to make my October, Arlo Parks’ North American tour and the Song Academy Young Songwriter Competition announcing its 2023 winners.

Firstly, I was as surprised as the rest of you on Tuesday morning when I woke up to news that was as unexpected as it was brilliant. Boygenius will be releasing their EP ‘the test’ of songs which didn’t quite make it onto ‘the record’ in March on Friday 13th October. A Friday 13th in spooky season, good date choice. They announced the name of one song ‘Black Hole’ and other than that the rest of ‘the rest’ (excuse the pun) is still up for speculation. As they continue their tour, hopefully we will be given a bit more of an insight into what to expect. In the meantime, I’ll be eagerly awaiting this mega exciting release.

Next, Arlo Parks has begun selling tickets for their North American tour. This tour follows the release of her album ‘My Soft Machine’ earlier this year, a great album by the way. The tour will consist of dates between the 29th February and 2nd April next year so if you intend to be in the US during that time you can grab your tickets now, the link is in Arlo’s Instagram bio.

Finally, SAYS23 has announced its winners and held its annual showcase. This competition means a lot to me as I was shortlisted for the (at the time) 13-18 UK and Ireland category in 2021. Since, I’ve kept up with them and am thrilled to say that they’re continuing their brilliant work championing young artists and providing them with a platform to express themselves. Organisations like this are so important, so feel free to follow them on social media or take a look at their website to hear more about the winning songs and what they do as a collective.
