News Roundup

The first big piece of music news this week that is unavoidable regardless of whether you love it or hate it is that the 2024 Grammy nominees have been announced. Next year's Grammy awards, which will take place on 4th February 2024, will be the 66th time the awards have been held and they are also going to feature three new categories: Best African Music Performance, Best Alternative Jazz Album and Best Pop Dance Recording. Nominees in key categories include Jon Batiste, boygenius, Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish, Victoria Monét, Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, SZA, Lana Del Rey and Janelle Monáe. Gracie Abrams, Noah Kahan and Ice Spice have also been recognised among others in the Best New Artist category. Of course, boygenius' nominations in particular are a big deal for me, they have received seven in total and promised in a recent interview that, should they not win, they will go on Instagram live and pretend they won anyway. It's been a big year for music, and it's safe to say that this will also be the first year my sister and I are actually genuinely invested in who's going to win, especially in the major categories. But of course, it's important to consider that Grammy's aren't everything, and there are so many great artists who haven't ever been nominated.

Secondly, I wanted to talk about Boygenius' appearance on SNL last night which, as well as performances of 'Satanist' and 'Not Strong Enough', featured the boys in a sketch with host Timothée Chalamet dressed as Troye Sivan. Honestly, watching this felt like a fever dream and because of that I will treat you all to the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzBvtMzWNL4
The performances themselves were wonderful as always, and it's honestly devastating to think that this could be the last we see of the boys for a while. At least they'll be making an appearance at the Grammys!
